Midlands duo Matt Morris and Adrian Carey were in sensational form on the opening day of the Glenbrae PGA Fourball Championship supported by SkyCaddie as they carded a stunning 14-under par round of 58 to open up a five-shot lead at the summit of the leader board.
Morris (Hatchford Brook) shot eight birdies while Carey (Walmley) recorded four birdies and a miraculous eagle as they blew the competition away at Fulford Golf Club in York.
Morris said: "We just went for it out there. I played the better golf on the front nine and Adrian played the better on the back nine.
"We didn't really birdie the same holes which helps and we didn't get any bogeys. We played it yesterday and it was pretty tough, we got seven under and thought if we got that today we would be happy.
"Obviously to shoot double that is brilliant. If you're not happy after shooting 14 under then you're never going to be so we've just got to enjoy ourselves tomorrow.
"We took every shot on out there and were very attacking - and in fourball format that's what you've got to do.
Morris also revealed how a stroke of fortune on the 18th was in part to thank for their highly-impressive score.
"I missed the green on the last hole and it was pretty much dead. I asked Adrian how to play it and he said bump it into the bank, so I bumped it into the bank and it must be running about 20 feet by, but it's hit the flag and gone in."
Partner Carey is refusing to get carried away going into the second day and insists that they wont be changing their style of play which was so effective today.
"We're not going to get 14 under every time so it's nice to shoot a good score when you're playing well. We've just got to play our own games tomorrow and not get carried away."
Meanwhile, Christopher Ryan and Kevin Hale (The Belfry) and Paul Bagshaw (Ramsdale Park) and Craig Swinburne (Mapperley) are well positioned on nine-under par.
