Midlands duo Adrian Carey and Mathew Morris will go into the final day of the Glenbrae PGA Fourball Championship supported by SkyCaddie with a one-shot lead after failing to repeat their heroics of the opening day.
Carey (Walmley) and Morris (Hatchford Brook) shot a stunning round of 14-under par on the first day at Fulford Golf Club in York, but they were only able to card a round of six under today as their formidable lead at the summit of the leader board was reduced dramatically.
And Carey admits the blustery conditions made it impossible for a repeat performance of their sensational first-day display.
He said: "We would have taken that at the start of the day. It's hard to follow a round of 14 under. It was just a much tougher day today - the flags were a bit tougher and there was sidewind on every hole. "There was no up and down wind, it was all just side winds and crosswinds which makes the game a lot harder.
And he was quick to dismiss any thoughts that the duo were nervous going into their second round with such an imposing lead.
"In fourball you're not nervous because you know you've got a partner with you. If you were playing in singles and you've got a lead then it's different, but then if there's two of you then you shouldn't really be making any bogeys.
"We're definitely going to have to do better than today to win it, I think 27 or 28 under will be enough to be the winning score, but it all depends on the winds."
Meanwhile, Paul Bagshaw (Ramsdale Park) and Craig Swinburn (Mapperley) shot a round of 64 to leave them on 17-under par and in a strong position heading into the final day.
Bagshaw said: "Craig did all the damage today. We've played a lot of golf together and played a lot fourball golf recently so we're pretty familiar with each other.
"We've tried to play some attacking golf over the past two days but it was a bit more difficult today with the wind. You've got to be a little bit careful in places, but there's a few chances out there.
"It's a super golf course and you can see why they've held major events here in the past. Talking to a few of the members it's clear that they want to have a few more back here, it's definitely god enough but whether it can handle the spectators is another matter."
