Shacklady Earns Tour Berths

Published in:

Mossock Hall pro David Shacklady has secured himself starts at a handful of Challenge Tour events next year after finishing fifth at the PGA Play-Offs at Notts Golf Club.

Shacklady carded level-par rounds of 72 on both days of the tournament and has won invitations to the FirstPlus Wales Challenge, Challenge of Ireland and the Scottish Challenge.

Midlands golfer Paul Streeter (Southwell) claimed first spot after a round of three-under par on the second day and has won starts at the BMW PGA Championship, Celtic Manor Resort Wales Open, European Open and Barclays Scottish Open on the European Tour.

Shacklady said afterwards: "If I'm honest I played poorly. I've hung in at the end to be fair because I've had a penalty shot at the seventh and bogeyed the ninth which left me two up at the turn and I was struggling.

"The way I was playing I couldn't see anyway back. But I managed to hole a massive putt at 17 for eagle.

"I thought straight away that level par wouldn't be too far away to win it. That's because it's just a fantastic golf course and you've got to hit great golf shots on every hole.

Fellow North region golfers David Smith (Swinton Park) and Barry Taylor (Houghwood) endured mixed days as Smith ended on eight over for the tournament, while Taylor shot a level-par round today to leave him on three-over for the two days.
