Middlesbrough's Jonathan Lupton fired a second round 71 to move into fourth place at the halfway stage of the Australian PGA National Futures Championship in Melbourne.
The 28-year-old, who is bidding to add the Aussie title to his PGA Powerade Assistants crown he claimed in the summer, trails leader Brent McCullough by five shots after he shot a course record 65 at Sandhurst Golf Club.
McCullough's exploits catapulted him from equal tenth to outright leader by one shot over Alex Simpson.
McCullough reeled off seven birdies including four-in-a-row from hole eight through to eleven.
"I had six birdies and four bogies yesterday and missed inside 12-feet, but it came together today" said McCullough.
Meanwhile defending champion Julian Reynolds's hopes of a third successive Futures title are still alive as he added a one under par 71 to sit in third place at six under.
South African assistant Douglas Wood is back in 21st at one over par after a 73.
