PGA Cup player James Whatley has teamed up with Morley Hayes Golf Club to deliver golf lessons to primary schools across Derbyshire.
The East Midlands Golf Academy coach, who was the youngest member of the GB&I team that narrowly lost in America last year, will give youngsters the benefit of his skill in a Mighty Masters initiative.
The scheme, aimed at junior school children aged between five and 11, has been specifically crafted by a team of PGA professionals with an extensive knowledge in the field of sports education in a bid to introduce children to golf in a school environment.
James, the reigning Derbyshire PGA Professional Championship, will visit participating junior schools across the county to teach pupils how to play beginners golf using specially designed equipment.
The lessons will also incorporate a trip to Morley Hayes to give children the opportunity to practise their swings on a 'real' golf course.
"I am delighted at the tremendous response that youngsters have shown in the lessons, it is great to see them picking up golfing skills so quickly and easily," said Whatley.
One of the first schools to sign up to the initiative was Park View Primary School.
"This has given our pupils the opportunity to get involved with a sport that they would not normally get the chance to play," said the school's PE co-ordinator Stephen Cartledge.
