Cameron Takes Route 66 into Scottish PGA

Published in:

Ross Cameron stormed into next month's Gleneagles Scottish PGA championship after romping to victory in the second pre-qualifier at Downfield in Dundee.

The McDonald Ellon pro, who is developing his career with guidance from former Open champion Paul Lawrie, fired a seven-under 66 to win by three shots from Stephen Craig (Paragon Golf Akademie).

Despite a bogey at the third, Cameron came roaring back with a haul of eight birdies including five in a row from the ninth to secure his place in the national championship.

Carnoustie's Lee Vannet, the former British Boys' champion, and Fife's Stewart Whiteford, brother of European Tour rookie Peter, progressed with 73s while Alan Tait, the Tartan Tour's No 1 in 1996, also eased through with a 74.

This season's Gleneagles Scottish PGA championship will be held over the PGA Centenary course from July 3-6.
