Manchester-based professional John Cheetham will reprise a successful partnership dating back to his university days as he seeks to qualify for the final of the SkyCaddie PGA Fourball Championship supported by Sunderland.
Cheetham, who celebrated his 24th birthday on June 30, once again teams up with Simon Shepherd for the North Region qualifier on July 10 at Woodsome Hall Golf Club in Huddersfield.
The pair made last year's final but felt they did not do themselves justice and would like to return to Fulford in York to rectify that.
"We played really solidly on both days; after starting off badly on the first day we recovered well with some late birdies," said Marriott Worsley Park's Cheetham.
"On the second day we started off well and got it to within reach of the cut mark but we just had bad holes at the same time.
"You expect to have some bogeys in two days of golf but they all came on the same hole for us.
"If it had been the other way around we would have made the cut."
Cheetham and Shepherd, who will travel up from North Foreland in Kent for the event as he did last year, played golf together at Birmingham University so they are very familiar with each other's games - a key part of the fourball format.
"At the qualifier last year we dove-tailed brilliantly and we were eight under for 10 holes in the middle of the round," added Cheetham, who has played with Shepherd, 23, half a dozen times since their final appearance last year.
"Our games are both in good order - we just need to avoid having two bogeys together. We do know each other's games and we help each other out."
Leeds-based professional Phil Boag is looking to qualify for the final for a fourth time, having made the cut on every previous occasion.
However, he will go to Woodsome Hall with a new partner as Aran Wainwright (Selby) is not eligible for the event as he is playing on the PGA Europro Tour.
But Boag has not had to look far for a replacement as he is linking up with Danny Wallis, who works alongside him at Garforth Golf Range.
"I've been to the final three times before and am looking forward to the qualifier," said the 33-year-old Boag.
"My best finish is tied for eighth when Aran and I shot a best-of-the-day 11-under-par 61 at Hesketh a couple of years ago but we've made the cut in all three finals."
And Boag joked: "Danny was a junior at the club I used to work at (Oulton Hall) so I'll be pulling rank on him!"
The final of this year's SkyCaddie PGA Fourball Championship will be held at Fulford Golf Club in York from October 1-3.
