Teign Valley professional Sean Mason will dash to the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire next week to start his bid to retain the West Region Order of Merit title.
The busy Mason, aged 27, is determined to remain the top West Country player and reach both the Srixon PGA Play-Offs at Royal Liverpool in October and qualify again for the European Tour's flagship BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth next May.
"I had such a great time at Wentworth this year I have set my heart on returning," he said.
And he is in the right frame of mind after chasing around the country in recent weeks. He earned his first cheque in Europe for £1,400 when he finished 26th in the Scottish Challenge at Cardrona Hotel.
He will arrive for the 36-hole Forest Classic from Hillside where he attempts to qualify for The Open on Monday and Tuesday.
Jon Bevan, the Wessex Golf Centre pro from Weymouth, will also be a late arrival. The PGA Cup player who played all four rounds at Carnoustie last year, is qualifying at Southport & Ainsdale.
Bristol-based PGA Cup player George Ryall beat Barry Austin (Downes Crediton) by one shot to become last year's inaugural winner and he is also running into form.
This year's Forest Classic with a prize fund of around £12,000 is sponsored by Harry Kear's Forest Golf and Leisure. It takes on a new format over the Forest Hills and the Bells Hotel Forest of Dean courses situated a couple of miles apart in Coleford.
It will be a betterball event with each pro bringing his own amateur partner. Forest Hills professional Richard Ballard, who has set it all up, said: "We have 82 entries - it's fantastic.
"This is a chance for amateurs to have two days golf alongside their professional on two excellent courses for just £100."
"There will be two long days starting from 7.35am so we are praying for good weather. But we are delighted with the entry and know that all the players will be equally pleased with the courses and the fantastic set-up we have here.
"Paul Gibson, our head greenkeeper, has worked like a Trojan and people will see the benefit of his efforts."
