Gray And Levermore Share Honours

Published in:

Two Essex players shared top spot at the Brocket Hall Invitational Captain's Charity pro-am over the tough Palmerston course.

Roger Gray of Thorndon Park and Jason Levermore of Clacton were the only players to break par. They ended with rounds of one under par 72 but both squandered outright victory chances in their final three holes.

It was a shotgun start. Gray was off to a flier with two birdies in his first three holes after starting at the 12th. He dropped a shot at the 15th but further birdies at the first, third and fifth left him four under par with only three holes to play. He dropped a shot at each of his last three holes.

Levermore, starting at the 15th, was three under with three to play but dropped a couple of shots late on.

Three players ended level par. Daniel Field of East Herts, Peter Cherry of Ashridge and Mark Hooper of Rayleigh Golf Range.

Two teams finished at 15 under par. Field and his amateurs together with the team with former European Tour star Mark Davis of Thorndon Park ended two shots ahead of all rivals. Paul Hetherington (Great Hadham), Neil Lythgoe (Royal Norwich) and Ryan Pudney (Royal Cromer) all had teams at 13 under par.
