Barnett Takes Clubhouse Lead

Andrew Barnett holds the clubhouse lead at the RCW2010 Welsh National PGA Championship after a two under par round 68 at Cardiff Golf Club today.

But in a tournament that had already been postponed once due to bad weather there were further delays with rain and wind bringing play to an early close with several players still out on the course.

Amongst those affected were Adam Constable and Alex James, who are both three under after 12 holes.

After his efforts Barnett said: "It was good. I was off early and I played nicely.

"I dropped a couple of shots on the front nine but I had four birdies on the back nine."

Barnett picked up shots at the 10th, 11th, 14th and 18th on his way to the lowest round of the day.

"I've had a great season, I've been playing well," he added.

"It's a top course, presented well and it gives you the option to play safe or attack it."

Constable, who faces a tough up-and-down in the morning to try and save par at the 13th, said: "I'm playing quite nicely.

"I couldn't reach the green in two at 13 in the strong winds, it was tough with the persistant rain.

"I'll have to play 24 holes tomorrow and my fitness isn't the best for a 27-year-old but I should be okay."
