Robert Leonard of Mid Herts, the PGA East Region Trainees' champion in 2007, was the star of Jeff Pinsent's Captain's Day at Bishop's Stortford which had a shotgun start.
Leonard had a round of seven-under-par 64 with six birdies and an eagle. The only blemish was a dropped shot on the 349-yard par four seventh hole.
Mark Davis of Thorndon Park was one shot behind despite matching Leonard's tally of six birdies and an eagle, however a double bogey on the 16th which was his second hole ultimately proved costly.
Andrew Clapp of Brickendon Grange and Andrew Pestell of Chelmsford were joint third at four-under-par.
Darren Charlton of Dunstable Downs led in the winning team at 14-under-par, one shot better than teams with Luke Eggleston of Orsett and Davis.
