West Berkshire's Guy Woodman chopped the Aussies down to size by winning their national assistants' title in style at Bateman's Bay in New South Wales.

Third year assistant Woodman, who was unable to go last year having won the Powerade PGA Assistants' Championship, got his chance this year after replacing winner Jonathan Lupton in the field - an exact reversal of 12 months ago - as this year's champion was no longer eligible as a fully-qualified professional.

Lupton's record in his two trips 'Down Under' was excellent with two top ten finishes, however Woodman, runner-up at the London Club back in August, topped that by securing the Crown Lager PGA National Futures Championship with a four-shot margin.

Woodman opened his account with successive one-under-par 71s but a third round 68 followed by an even more impressive 67 at the Catalina Country Club eased him to 11-under for the week as he denied a host of leading assistants from across Australia with Corey Hale his closest challenger.

The win earned the 32-year-old more than £5,500.
