Aran Wainwright kept his cool as hailstones pounded St Annes Old Links for 40 minutes during the Mansell Finishes Winter Pro-am Series.
Despite the barrage, the Mid Yorkshire professional wielded his putter like a magic wand as he conjured up an eagle and seven birdies in a nine-under-par 63 to win by four strokes.
He started his round at the fifth, which he birdied, but hit his purple patch on the last four holes where he picked up five shots, including his eagle at the 18th, to leave the rest of a 54-strong field trailing in his wake.
Leigh's Andrew Baguley and Houghwood assistant Barry Taylor tied second on 67.
