The impact PGA pros make at grass roots level was highlighted recently by Jon Woodroffe who, with nearly 50,000 lessons under his belt, was named The PGA in England (South) Coach of The Year.

Woodroffe, a PGA Advanced Fellow Professional, was selected by a panel of PGA Members and received the accolade from chairman Rob Edwards at Wentworth Club in Surrey.

The experienced golf coach – who currently leads a popular beginners’ class programme at the World of Golf driving range in New Malden, south-west London – was chosen as the region’s No.1 tutor ahead of hundreds of other fellow teaching professionals.

“I’m extremely honoured to receive an award like this from my fellow PGA Members,” said Woodroffe who has enjoyed a 35 year career in coaching.

“My ambition has always been to encourage more people to play the game and enjoy golf in an environment where it is fun to learn. This award is very special to me,” he added.

In over three decades, Woodroffe has introduced more than 20,000 players to golf, received the Golf Foundation Burroughs Award for coaching disadvantaged children and, more recently, taken up a role to head golf development at World of Golf.

“Jon’s award is thoroughly deserved and testament to the way he has conducted golf lessons all of his life,” said Grant Wright, CEO of World of Golf.

Woodroffe is part of a team of nine highly-rated coaches at World of Golf and is qualified to lead lessons in the new Performance Centre, the most advanced golf teaching facility in the UK.
