Maths student Aidan Kingsbury is hoping the figures add up for him at the Lombard Trophy Final.
Enville Golf Club amateur Kingsbury will be at university in Groningen, Holland when the prestige National Pro-Am Championship tees off in Portugal.
But the 19-year-old plans to take a break from his studies to partner PGA professional Richard Copsey in the £41,450, Coca-Cola and Pestana Resorts supported, grand final which will be played at the Vila Sol resort in the Algarve between September 20-21.
The pair qualified for the event at their home course in June when they carded an impressive 11 under par to win by five shots.
Since then, five handicapper Kingsbury has been preparing to move to the Netherlands.
And he admits he has been consulting Copsey to make sure his game does not go off the boil.
“My golf went a bit off track to be honest, but it’s coming back slowly,” said Stourbridge-based Kingsbury.
“I got back to Rich and he’s sorted me out, I’m putting into fruition what he told me to do.”
But he admits nothing will keep him away from the final despite his course getting under way.
“I’m sorted for university but it does clash with the Lombard Trophy,” he explained.
“I can’t imagine the university would have a problem with it, but I don’t think Rich would ever forgive me if I didn’t turn up!
“It has been a bit stressful during the summer but I think it’ll sort itself out.”
Kingsbury says he has not been neglecting his golf despite the need for some fine tuning along the way.
“I’ve been playing quite frequently but I haven’t been able to put the hours in for practice,” he added.
“I’m keeping in touch with Rich as much as possible but it can be difficult to fit it in with the full time job I had working for my dad as a junior draughtsman.”
