Allan, Joy and Locke on top after Day 1 at Cumberwell

It was a day of low scores across the board as Lawrence Allan, Luke Joy and Sam Locke all went nine under to tie for the lead after round one of The Diamond X Open at Cumberwell Park.

Allan of Alva Golf Club had a bogey-free round of 62 including two eagles to put him at the top with Joy from Remedy Oak/Yas Links Abu Dhabi who posted eight birdies and an eagle to start his account for the week. Meanwhile, Sam Locke (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) put ten birdies on the board to put himself right in the mix.

Two shots back are Oliver Clarke of White Rose Sport Management, Rocco Sanjust from Tenuta Di Petrolo and Robert Harrhy (Frilford Heath Golf Club) with Clarke going bogey-free on 64 and Sanjust only dropping one shot with four birdies on the front nine and the same for the back. Harrhy was also unblemished for his round.

Laurie Canter who plies his trade at Cumberwell Park is tied for seventh with Richard Mansell (Beau Desert Golf Club), Will Enefer (Retail Furniture Ltd), Neil Fenwick (Dunbar Golf Club), Ben Hall (TSR Recruitment), Stuart Grehan, Will Whiteoak (Shipley Golf Club), James Allan (Chelmsford Golf Club) and James Laskey (Brocket Hall/HLBS)

Over 100 went under par on their opening rounds making it an interesting prospect going into day two where the cut will be made after 36 holes. The cut will be made the top 50 plus ties.
