Scotland’s Heather MacRae faces the anguish of LET qualifying school after missing out on securing a card for the 2014 season by the slenderest of margins.

The 30-year-old PGA trained professional finished sixth on the LET Access Series Order of Merit - less than €50 shy of a sought-after top five spot which guaranteed a place among the elite of women’s golf.

MacRae, who became the first woman in over 80 years to qualify for the Scottish PGA Championship in 2009, saw the dream slip away at The Mineks Ladies Classic in Turkey where she closed with an 80 to finish in a share of 10th place.

The Gleneagles-based pro took to social media site Twitter to express her disappointment, tweeting: “A lot of the time it's the best job in the world but today it's making me sick. Some things are just not fair!”

But MacRae has a second opportunity to get on the Tour via the five-round Qualifying School in Morocco, which begins on Saturday December 14.

The top 30 players will secure a card and entry to the majority of tournaments on the 2014 schedule.

And MacRae has support from one of the leading players on the LET and fellow Scot Catriona Matthew – winner of the Women’s British Open in 2009, who tweeted: “Feeling bad for @hezzmacgolf right now, but know she has the right stuff to get thru qschool in a few weeks time #relaxandletithappen #trust”.
