Aphrodite Hills voted best golf resort in Europe

Aphrodite Hills, the PGA National for Cyprus, has won Golf Resort of the Year for 2018 at the annual International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) awards.

The 5-star fully integrated resort faced stiff competition from over 2,000 golf courses across Europe and won the accolade after receiving a total of 680 votes from tour operators in 65 different countries.

Aphrodite Hills joined the PGA’s family of National level resorts, which includes The Belfry in England and Gleneagles in Scotland, back in September this year.

The resort, located in the hills overlooking the site where Aphrodite, the goddess of love, is said to have emerged from the Mediterranean Sea, features a 6,200 metres plus championship course that was opened in 2002.

It also houses a golf academy complete with an academy practice course and 350 metre double-ended driving range.

It all adds up to a facility that, staffed by five fully-qualified PGA Members under director of golf Andrew Darker’s leadership, is perfect for both beginners and experienced players to learn and improve their games or just play in the sunshine.

In addition to its golfing attributes, the resort boasts the five-star 290-room Aphrodite Hills Hotel operated by Atlantica.

Other award-winning facilities at the resort include a championship Tennis Academy with nine tennis courts, a 27-room Greco-Roman Retreat Spa the picturesque church of St. Catherine and a whole host of restaurants, bars and cafes.

The IAGTO awards took place in Cannes on Tuesday (December 12) in front of an audience which included no fewer than 1,500 international golf tourism delegates.

Pebble Beach Resorts was named the Golf Resort of the Year for North America and Fancourt in South Africa won the same accolade for the Rest of the World.
