Austin takes top spot at East Devon

Barry Austin made a rare appearance in a Devon PGA medal and proved his class once more by winning by three shots. The former West Order of Merit champion, now club professional at Downes Crediton, won the contest with a round of four-under-par on a glorious day at East Devon.
He made three birdies by the 11th with no dropped shots but then shot two successive bogeys before finishing with a flourish by making three birdies in the last four holes.
This left Yelverton’s Adam Frayne well behind on 69. Dan Hendriksen (Staddon Heights) followed on 71 in third with Tom Jessamine (Woodbury Park), Adam Keates (Bigbury), Neil Holman (Torbay Golf Centre), Kevin Harper (East Devon) and Paul Hendriksen (Ivybridge) sharing fourth on 72.
