Baker and Dixon defy Storm Barra to repeat Howards Motor Group success

09/12/2021

Roy Baker and David Dixon defied Storm Barra to win the Howards Motor Group-sponsored Gloucester and Somerset PGA Pairs Championship for the second time in succession.

As before, the Channel Course at Burnham and Berrow was the stage for their success and once again the pair prevented Cirencester Golf Club’s Ed Goodwin from winning the event for a sixth time.

Goodwin and Giuseppe Licata, his partner from Filton Golf Club, had finished joint-runners up a shot behind Dixon and Baker (above) when the event was last staged prior to the hiatus in the schedule due to Covid.

This time, however, they were two shots off the pace as Worlebury Golf Club’s Baker and his partner from Enmore Park overcame the challenging conditions presented by the weather and course to post a four-under par round of 66.

Woodspring Golf Club’s Kevin Pitts and Ashley Mansell of Clevedon Golf Club also finished joint second and the Taunton & Pickeridge Golf Club duo of James Keitch and his boss, Jason Avery, were fourth with a one under par round of 69.

Once again, the event was sponsored by the Weston Super Mare-based Howards Motor Group and Gloucester and Somerset PGA secretary Patrick Baker said: “After such a difficult period during the pandemic we are indebted to them as well as all of our other sponsors, for their continued support.”
