Bangerter follows the Tiger at Sawgrass

Tandridge Golf Club’s Luke Bangerter followed in Tiger Wood’s footsteps by tasting victory at TPC Sawgrass.

Bangerter and his team had watched the world no. 1 capture the PLAYERS Championship, before competing in the annual Sawgrass Classic Pro-Am which is played on four superb courses in the Ponte Vedra Beach area including the final round at the PLAYERS Stadium Course.

The Surrey pro’s wire to wire victory over a strong field was secured with an impressive level par 72 on Pete Dye’s infamously difficult TPC Stadium Course which was presented in pristine tournament condition with the grandstands still in place. 

Former European Tour player James Heath finished second and Wellingborough’s Simon Lilly third. 

After his victory Bangerter paid tribute to his team of amateur golfers and Pro-Am Tour organisers John and Alison Hooper from The American Golf Holiday.

East Herts Golf Club’s Daniel Field led his team of Stewart Smith, Kathryn Archibald and David Archibald to victory in a highly competitive team event, with Iain Stoddart’s team finishing two shots behind in second place, and angerter’s third.

During the pro-am, a Challenge Day was also held at the PLAYERS Stadium Course where tournament organiser, Hooper, challenged the professionals to break 80 from the back “TPC” tees. 

Successful professionals were rewarded with an additional $200 bonus with five, James Heath, Simon Lilly, Luke Bangerter, Peter Allan and Daniel Field, all receiving the bonus.
