Benn Barham (above) claimed his first America Golf Holiday Pro-Am Tour victory as he captured the Las Vegas Classic Pro-Am.
Kings Hill professional Barham, a member of last year’s GB & I PGA Cup team, took the honours just a week after finishing third in the Scottsdale Classic in neighbouring Arizona.
Barham steadily improved over the course of the three-round tournament with scores of 73, 68, 66 over Rio Secco, Primm Valley’s Lakes course and the Sun Mountain course at Las Vegas Paiute, for an eight-under-par total.
Fellow South Region player and defending champion James Ablett (Lee on the Solent) put up a fierce defence of his title to finish, closing with a 67, but finished two shots back in second. Dave Mills (Pease Pottage) finished a distant third.
In the team event, Ablett’s side stormed to victory by four shots from Anthony Sproston’s group after a stunning final round at Las Vegas Paiute Resort. Barham’s team were third.
This was the 17th staging of the Las Vegas Classic Pro-Am, one of a number of Pro-Am Tour events organised by American Golf Holiday.
