There’s no stopping Sion Bebb, the Morlais Castle club professional who has lost none of the sharpness he showed during his days on the European Tour.

After winning a charity event at the Glamorganshire followed 24 hours later by the Cotswold Edge pro-am he made it three victories in five days with another outstanding round in the annual Gwalia Housing Association pro-am at Langland Bay.

Bebb, 47, shot three-under-par 67 which was remarkable considering none of the other 32 players could break par. He could even afford to drop a shot on the tenth after a three-under opening nine of 33. He made a double bogey seven at the 15th but three more birdies steadied his round.

Although the sun shone all day a strong, tricky wind at the spectacular course high above the bay and some high rough in places and slick greens made scoring difficult. Bebb simply kept his ball on the fairways.

So for most of the time did Peter Evans, the Royal Porthcawl professional whose outings are limited these days. But he showed his class once more with a steady level-par round of 70 with three birdies and three bogeys to finish second.

Huw Williams (Pyle & Kenfig) and Dan Toogood (Weston-super-Mare) followed on 71 with Robert Jackson (Morriston), home player Gavin Godbeer sharing fifth a further shot back. Charlie Cossins (Ogbourne Downs) and Toby Hunt (St Mellons) were seventh on 73.

Langland Bay director of golf Andrew Minty, a PGA Fellow Professional, rarely plays but had the satisfaction of leading home the winning team on 12-under-par 128. The team included club captain Richard Evans who plays off a scratch handicap and made five birdies, Tim Lillicrap, off five, and Peter Williams, 15.

Huw Williams, heading the R and M Williams team of Lyndon Edwards, Rhys Jenkins and Iwan Davies, were second on 129. The Bebb-led team of main sponsors Morganstone, with Ken Evans, Andrew Gibson and Dafydd Cantwell were third with 131.

The Gwalia Association which supports housing and community projects in South Wales, raised further funds from another successful day.
