Former European Tour player Sion Bebb won for the first time since becoming club professional at Morlais Castle Golf Club with a five-under-par 65 in the Radyr pro-am.

The man who spent ten years on the European and Challenge Tours, and claimed eight wins last year, was three-under after five holes. Despite dropping a shot at the par-three seventh, he raced to six-under with an eagle three at the eighth and added further birdies at the ninth and 11th. He dropped his second shot at the 17th.

But he assumed a two-stroke lead over another former Welsh European Tour player Paul Mayo and in-form David Dixon (Enmore Park). Former Ryder Cup player Phillip Price, last year’s Order of Merit winner Liam Bond (Marriott St Pierre) and Paul Jones (Canford Magna) shared fourth on 68.

Richard Dinsdale (Parc Golf Academy) and Welsh-qualified England pro Graham Howell (Ferndown Forest) added to the domination of principality players by finishing seventh on 69 as the only other players below par.

Mayo made five birdies while Price, playing in his second regional event of the season, reached the 13th tee after five birdies before shedding three shots over the closing holes.

Three more Welsh players, Matthew Dearden (Llantrisant & Pontyclun), Chris O'Neill (Valleys Golf Enterprise) and Toby Hunt (St Mellons) recorded par 70s.

Dixon threatened to add to his successes this season with a lightening start. He was four-under-par after five holes, the highlight being his eagle two at the 311-yard second when he holed his approach. But he parred every other hole apart from the par-five 13th which he bogeyed.

Dixon’s Barola trio claimed the team prize with 81 points, a score matched by Dinsdale’s Asbri Golf group and Hunt’s Capital Coated Steel players.
