Broadway’s Russ Berry romped to his second Gloucester and Somerset PGA win in three weeks by a convincing four shots over the Brinsea course at Mendip Spring.

His six-under par 65 included eight birdies to leave runners-up Giuseppe Licata (Chipping Sodbury) and Tim Elliott (Tall Pines) well behind in yet another well-supported event.

Berry opened with two birdies in the first three holes and closed with three consecutive birdies. Bogeys at the 11th and 12th were minor blips as he spread-eagled the field to extend his lead over reigning champion Licata in the Total Triumph Order of Merit.

Licata, fresh from a pro-am win in Cornwall two days earlier, carded four birdies and dropped two shots. Elliott played steadily on a course he remembered from his amateur days at the club. He dropped his only shot at the second before making three birdies.

Home assistant Will Hobbs claimed fourth on 70 followed a shot further back by Ross Langdon (Brickhampton Court), Alex Munro (Bristol Golf Centre) and Over 40’s sweep winner George Ryall Burnham and Berrow).
