Berry good for Russell

Russ Berry won the opening event of Gloucester and Somerset PGA winter season at Cirencester in his first appearance for two years.

He posted three-under-par 67 to win by a single stroke from another returning player Ross Langdon, who is now based at Gloucester.

Cheltenham-based Berry, who represents Professional Golf Europe, birdied the short second hole and the sixth before dropping his first shot at the seventh. He added birdies at the 12^th, 16^th and 18^th after another bogey at the 14^th.

Langdon, who was attached to South Cerney in Wiltshire, carded two bogies but offset these with two birdies and an eagle at the 12^th.

But Windmill Golf Academy’s Louis Boston took the birdie sweep money as well as third spot. He made six gains in his round but a triple bogey seven at the 14^th proved to be his undoing. G&S PGA captain Nick Ellis (Naunton Downs) and matchplay runner-up Ashley Mansell (Clevedon) tied for fourth with level-par 70.
