Russ Berry won the opening event of Gloucester and Somerset PGA winter season at Cirencester in his first appearance for two years.

He posted three-under-par 67 to win by a single stroke from another returning player Ross Langdon, who is now based at Gloucester.

Cheltenham-based Berry, who represents Professional Golf Europe, birdied the short second hole and the sixth before dropping his first shot at the seventh. He added birdies at the 12th, 16th and 18th after another bogey at the 14th.

Langdon, who was attached to South Cerney in Wiltshire, carded two bogies but offset these with two birdies and an eagle at the 12th.

But Windmill Golf Academy’s Louis Boston took the birdie sweep money as well as third spot. He made six gains in his round but a triple bogey seven at the 14th proved to be his undoing. G&S PGA captain Nick Ellis (Naunton Downs) and matchplay runner-up Ashley Mansell (Clevedon) tied for fourth with level-par 70.
