Bev’s excited about LCGP challenge

31/07/2014

Bev Dodd, who has succeeded Iain Lancaster as Lancashire County Golf Partnership development officer, is committed to delivering a number of projects designed to attract more people into the game and encourage existing golfers to play more regularly.

Lancaster, who has taken up his duties as regional manager overseeing Lancashire, Staffordshire, Cheshire and Derbyshire, was instrumental in setting up 15 Get into Golf centres around the county during his six months at the helm.

Dodd will continue to support the centres which provide a pathway for newcomers to take the skills they learn on to the course, eventually leading to club membership.

Bev, who lives in Edenfield, has been a member of Rossendale Golf Club since 2004. She has a handicap of 11 and was a finalist in the Bury and District Championship in 2013 when she also won the England Golf volunteer of the year award.

She has helped to set up and deliver a number of junior academies at the Rossendale club which has seen junior membership grow into a thriving section. Bev, who played hockey for Blackburn and was involved in developing the sport in the area, has also designed and supports programmes for women new to golf.

She said: “I am excited about the role with the LCGP. There is fantastic potential across the region to grow the game, and especially to bring more ladies and girls into it.

“I am looking forward to working with clubs to help them to achieve Golfmark and to support them to develop ideas to increase membership and participation.

Iain Lancaster added: “I’m confident Bev will continue the work already done in setting up golf centres. She’s very enthusiastic and her contacts in the game will stand her in good stead.”
