Big man Nick stars at Bigbury

28/01/2016

Despite starting with a double bogey six Nick Horrocks (Staddon Heights) won the Devon PGA medal at Bigbury by one shot.

The tallest player in the West, standing 6ft 6in tall, shot three-under-par 67 to pip young Bovey Castle Hotel assistant Connor Jenkins and Exeter Golf and Country Club’s golf manager Ben Martin.

A birdie at the fourth, followed by a bogey at the sixth, gave no indication of what was to follow as Horrocks finished the front nine with birdies at the seventh and eighth and an eagle at the ninth. Three further birdies in four holes from the 13th completed his day.

Consistent Martin dropped his only shot at the fifth but produced birdies at the ninth, 14th and 17th. Jenkins was more spectacular with six birdies and four dropped shots in two halves of 34.

Paul Hendriksen (Ivybridge) was fourth on 69, one ahead of Richard Woods (Dainton Park).
