Binney bags Cornish double

St Austell’s Russell Binney enjoyed the opening event of the Cornwall Professional Golfers Alliance with a double success at The Point of Polzeath.

On the first Alliance visit to the course, formerly known as Roserrow, Binney shared top spot with Grant Slater (Trevose) and Scott Richards (Truro) in the individual professional award with one-under-par rounds worth 37 points and also won the pairs alongside amateur Gary Hooper (St Austell) with 42 points.

This year’s Alliance vice-captain Dan Wood (Ivy Leaf) was fourth on 33 followed on 32 by Nick Williams (St Enodoc), Nick Rogers (Falmouth) and Jonathan Lamb (Tehidy Park).

Second place in the pairs was decided on countback after four ties. 

Whitsand Bay pro Andy Welsh with Zak Rosen were second followed by Ben Treleaven and Scott Whitfield (Truro), Slater and Geoff Saunders (Trethorne) and Lamb with Ryan Reed (Tehidy).
