Tributes have been paid to Bob Martin, a long-serving seasonal member of staff for the PGA South West region who has died at the age of 63 following a short illness.
Bob first worked for the region in 2004 and in the subsequent 16 years expertly performed roles essential to the smooth-running and success of tournaments.
“These included driver, starter, recorder and tournament controller,” explained Rob Moss, PGA South West regional manager.
“Bob’s help was invaluable. Moreover, he was a well-liked and popular member of the team who always had time to stop and chat. He will be greatly missed by all those that knew him.”
Andrew March, the region’s chairman and head PGA Professional at Brean Golf Club added: “Bob was always a popular figure at our regional tournaments over the years he served. This is very sad news.”
Bob was similarly popular and respected at East Devon Golf Club and golfing circles throughout the west country. He was a member at East Devon for almost 50 years, having joined as a junior at the age of 14 and the club’s flag was flown at half-mast following his passing.
Bob is survived by Sue, his wife, and daughter Sara. PGA South West extends heartfelt condolences to them, his other family members, and legion of friends.
*Sue Martin has stated that Bob’s funeral is open to all who wish to attend. It will be held at East Devon Crematorium, Whimple, Exeter, EX5 2PT, at 14.30 on November 18 and followed by a celebration of his life at East Devon Golf Club.
