Boston hits birdie blitz

05/11/2015

Louis Boston reeled off a stunning seven successive birdies to close his round and add his name to the lengthy list of winners at the Cotswold Hills G&S PGA Medal.

The Windmill Golf Academy pro was one of four to share top spot with five-under-par 67s in near perfect scoring conditions in Cheltenham.

Boston’s back nine of 29 helped him match his fellow victors namely Total Triumph OOM leader Ross Langdon, Clevedon assistant Ashley Mansell and Weston Super Mare assistant Dan Toogood, who notched his first win as a professional.

With 11 holes to play Boston seemed destined to finish in the lower reaches of the leaderboard at two over par but ignited into top gear to finish with his superb blitz, which not surprisingly won him the birdie sweep too.

Langdon meanwhile is relishing his return to the G&S PGA events having posted his fourth top two finish in five starts.

Like Boston, he finished strongly coming home in 31 to consolidate his ever growing OOM lead.

The first player to join Langdon at the top was Mansell. The Somerset assistant did most of his scoring in the opening 10 holes as he reached five under by that point including a chip in.

Toogood went bogey free on the way to his first taste of victory as a pro, carding an eagle and three birdies and with it moved himself up to be Langdon’s nearest challenger in the OOM in his debut season.

Sharing fifth spot, a shot back, were trick shot star Paul Barrington (InPlay Golf) and Oake Manor assistant Alex Munro.

In amongst all the twenty something’s occupying the top six spots the experienced Barrington claimed the over 40’s sweep for his round.

The benign scoring conditions were reflected in the average score of the 28 strong field being almost a stroke under the par of 72 with level par netting the recipient merely a share of 16th.

The next medal in the series will take place at Clevedon next Thursday.
