Boyd issues rallying cry to PGA Members to join PGA Play platform as new updates roll out

01/04/2025

The PGA Play platform continues to connect golfers of all abilities with PGA Professionals, making it easier than ever for new and existing players to find expert tuition. With its latest updates, PGA Play enhances the experience for both customers and PGA Members alike, helping Pros to expand their reach and grow their business.

New Features

To support those new to the game, PGA Play has introduced a "Beginner Friendly" badge. Any PGA Professional who offers beginner lessons will now automatically have this badge on their profile, helping newcomers find the right coach with ease. No updates are required—if "Beginner Lessons" is selected as a specialism, the badge will appear.

A new "What to Expect" section has been added to all profiles, giving potential clients a clear idea of what their first lesson may involve. This section has been pre-populated but can be customised via the "Edit My Profile" section on PGA.info, allowing Members to tailor it to their specific coaching approach.

For those PGA Professionals who have not yet set up a PGA Play profile, or who are considering PGA Play, Jason Boyd, the long-serving Montrose Golf Links professional and current chairman of The PGA in Scotland, has a simple message: "Just get on it and make the most of it."

Boyd embraced PGA Play last year and has since reaped the benefits of this free online lesson tool. "Since the beginning of 2024, I’ve had 29 requests through PGA Play," Boyd revealed. "About 90% of those have converted into tuition or membership, bringing in over £2,500 to my business. It’s a great platform for promotion."

Having been at Montrose since 2001, Boyd has always had a strong coaching portfolio. However, PGA Play has allowed him to extend his reach beyond club members and tap into new audiences. "Most of my requests have come from non-members and people I wouldn’t normally have an association with. Many are from Montrose itself—people who didn’t even realise I taught golf. PGA Play has helped bridge that gap."

Boyd praises the ease of use and financial benefits of PGA Play. "It’s very easy to use—you log in, create a profile, and tailor it to your needs. You can be up and running in 10 minutes, and it’s free. Why wouldn’t you use it?"

"I don’t see why you wouldn’t embrace it. Another benefit is that if you click through anything to do with me on the official Montrose Golf Links website, it will take you through to PGA Play."

"When you do get an enquiry, it gives you a comprehensive guide on what to do next. We all know that you have a certain amount of time before a potential customer switches off."

"The system will urge you to reply within 24 hours, even if it’s just a holding email to say, ‘I’m away, I’ll get back to you’. The fact they get an answer relatively quickly is a big thing. At least you have engaged with the customer."

In an age when the golf industry is making a concerted push to attract more families into the game, one of Boyd’s most recent connections has underlined the value of the PGA Play platform.

"I answered a message from a family who are coming up to the Montrose area on holiday in August," said Boyd, who was a PGA trainee at Lenzie before moving on to Cochrane Castle and then to Montrose.

"The mother, the father and two children are all booked in for lessons. They will be here for a week, and it’s nine sessions. The kids have never tried golf before."

"The family is a key area of growth for golf, so this is almost a perfect example of the market we are trying to encourage. That’s all come from PGA Play, and this tool is going to be a big thing going forward."

With new features, PGA Play is making it easier than ever for customers to find and connect with PGA Professionals. As Jason Boyd’s experience shows, the platform isn’t just a promotional tool—it’s a game-changer for business growth and the future of golf.
