Brian Campbell, a former Secretary of the PGA in Ireland (1975-1985), passed away on June 2.
Born in Belfast, on September 5, 1926, Brian spent many years working as a director in the family business.
He was a member of Belvoir Park GC, where he filled numerous roles over the years, including Honorary Secretary. He was club captain on two occasions, president and a trustee of the club. He was made an honorary life-time member in 1995.
Brian became Secretary of the PGA in Ireland in 1975 at the merging of the PGA and the Irish Professional Golfers' Association. His role was to the run the business, administration and committee meetings of the PGA in Ireland.
His position also included the development, sponsorship and management of the tournaments and pro-ams. Some of the events that were initiated during his tenure are still being played for today.
During his 10 year spell as secretary, Brian took great personal satisfaction in being part of the development of professional events and activities to support playing opportunities for the PGA members.
