Rob Brightman (The Millbrook) made a birdie on the final hole to apply the finishing touch to his and partner Nathan Day’s victory in the Marston’s Beer Company PGA Summer Classic.
The duo were in superb form over the two days at Royal Cromer and Sheringham as they racked up no less than 84 Stableford points.
That tally was three better than the runners-up, Christopher Edwards (East Herts) and his father Gavin, who were the leaders after the first day.
The Edwards pairing notched 45 points under the greensomes format at the inspiring Royal Cromer course to lead by one from Brightman and four-handicapper Day.
But it was a slightly different story on the second day under better ball rules. Brightman and 18-year-old Day both holed long-range putts that helped them master blustery conditions at the majestic cliff-top experience that is Sheringham.
They added 40 points to their opening 44 giving the pair a victory remember.
Brightman, now the general manager at The Millbrook, was quick to praise his teenage partner, who has just completed his A-levels ahead of turning professional and starting the PGA’s degree course
He said: “I am the steady one and Nathan is the birdie machine! He was a very able partner.
“We played very solid golf for the two days. We only received two shots on the first day and shot six-under gross, which included a double bogey. I think we had nine birdies
“We just played some nice golf and it was much the same on the second day. We putted beautifully, which was testament to the quality of the golf courses.
“We had plenty of chances, including some outside chances that we managed to convert.
“I’ve been playing these for 12 years, I think, and I’ve come close a few times but this is the first I’ve won. I was very pleased to birdie the last and seal it.”
