David Broadfoot (pictured second right) and Richard Clark (far right) booked a first ever final appearance in the Golfbreaks.com PGA Fourball Championship with victory in the Scottish regional qualifying event.

The pair finished joint top of the leaderboard at Musselburgh Golf Club with a display that only saw them denied outright victory at the 18th hole.

Broadfoot (Dumfries & County) and Clark (Bruntsfield Links Golf Society) carded a seven-under-par round of 64 tying with Anthony Mackrell (Playsport Golf, left) and Scott Catlin (Greenburn, second left).

Now the two teams will join three other qualifying pairs at the £28,750, BMW supported final, which will be held at Forest Pines Hotel in Lincolnshire on October 2-4.

Broadfoot admitted he and Clark had a game plan for their debuts in the event, and he was delighted that it had succeeded.

He explained: “I said to Richard the night before that if we could make seven-under then we’d qualify, and that’s how it turned out.

“We don’t usually play much together in this format, but we’d gone out of one competition so we decided to go for this when it came up.

“Richard used to work at Dumfries so that’s how I know him. But this was the first time we’d played this event so we have to be pleased with how we did.”

Despite qualifying, Broadfoot was still disappointed with the finish to their round.

He added: “We had a great start and didn’t look back really.

“We started with a couple of birdies and had three in a row at one point, but we bogeyed the 18th which meant we didn’t win the qualifier and had to be satisfied with a tie.”

“The main aim was to get to Forest Pines which will be a good end of the year event for us now - it’s something we’re already looking forward to taking part in.”
