Paul Broadhurst bagged four birdies in five holes around the turn to take the honours in the Gedney Hill Pro Am.
The former Ryder Cup and European Tour regular finished two shots clear after his four-under par 66 around the Lincolnshire course.
But while Broadhurst made his mark midway through his round, Lincolnshire’s Thomas Rastall and Paul Bradshaw left their challenge until late.
Rastall (Sleaford GC) birdied the last three holes to finish two-under par while Bradshaw (Gainsborough GC) eagled the 16th and birdied the 17th for a one-under par 69.
Only two other golfers finished below par, former Midlands Order of Merit champion Matt Morris (Robert Rock Golf Academy) and Norfolk’s Jason Groat (Denver Golf Club).
Gedney Hill’s own Kerr Page had a mixed round, eagling the 10th but picking up a double bogey at the first and a triple at the 5th to finish down the field.
