Stuart Brown (Thorpe Wood) and Jason Levermore (Channels) handled blustery conditions best to tie at the top in the Bourn 25th Anniversary Pro-Am.
The pair were the only ones to break par as the wind increased after a 10am shotgun start at the venue near Cambridge.
Brown and Levers signed for respective one-under-par 71s – although the latter will feel this was one that got away.
The Essex golfer, who teed off at the 18th, dropped a shot at each of his closing three holes to slip back into a share of the spoils. Levermore had earlier reached four-under with four to play.
Brown began at the 14th and was soon in credit with a couple of birdies through three holes. But he slipped up with bogies before gaining a shot at the par-4 9th hole.
The shared success continued Brown’s recent run of form. On his previous outing he tied for third in the Titleist and Footjoy PGA Championship at The Oxfordshire.
Levermore, too, is playing consistently well, having finished tied-14th at The Oxfordshire and winning the Haverhill Pro-Am in recent weeks.
Danny Poulter (Bedford) took third spot on his own after a round of 72. Steve Cipa (South Essex Golf Centre), David Salisbury (Three Rivers G&CC) and Caroline Grady (Dunston Hall) were all a shot further back.
Brown was the leader of the winning team who notched a tally of 128 – two better than Salisbury’s quartet.
