David Bunker of Stanmore took top honours at pre-qualifying for the Weston Homes Plc/Bishop’s Stortford Classic.
Bunker fired a two-under-par 68 at the Hertfordshire Golf and Country Club to beat the home club’s assistant professional Charlie Luther by a single shot.
A total of 20 players qualified for June 4-5’s event at Bishop’s Stortford but it was Bunker’s day.
He capped a fine round that included four birdies with a superb eagle at the par-five, 17th hole.
Luther also finished with a flourish as he picked up birdies at the final two holes.
The leading duo were the only players in a 70-strong field to break par in warm and slightly breezy conditions.
Jonathan Sharkey (Links, Newmarket), Joshua Johnson (Bishop’s Stortford) and Jamie Le Brun (Ely City) also played some good golf in carding 71s to finish in a tie for third. All scores down to and including 74 made it through to the Weston Homes Plc/Bishop’s Stortford Classic.
The next pre-qualifying will be held at North Weald with places up for grabs in June 18-19’s East Region Championship at Essendon.
