George Ryall

European Seniors Tour winner George Ryall won his first West pro-am for two years with a superb three-under par 67 at Weymouth for a two-shot victory.

The 58-year-old, who is a teaching professional at Burnham & Berrow, last tasted success at Oake Manor back in 2015. But on a windy day in two torrential showers, he played his usual steady game with birdies at the sixth, seventh, 13th and 14th with one dropped shot on the par five ninth.

Paul Hendriksen (Ivybridge) was the only other player to better par with 69 on the final day of Weymouth’s Festival week, sponsored by St Austell Brewery.

Andrew Windsor (Knighton Heath) and Anthony Buchanan (Tavistock) both achieved their best results of the season in sharing third on level par 70. Both players eagled the 319-yard par four 11th.

It was also a red-letter day for Aaron Crabb (Cricket St Thomas) who produced his best result by carding 71 to join Ashley Mansell (Clevedon) in fifth. He would have shared second but for a costly double bogey six at the last.

Mark Searle (High Post), Craig Melding (Neath) and Mark Wiggett (Dudsbury) finished in a tie for seventh on 72.

Lee Thompson (Dudsbury) led the winning team of Keith Grimshaw, Stuart Elliott and Simon Grey on 129, one better than the trios headed by Matt Williams (Dudsbury) and Windsor.
