Jonathan Caldwell leads The Newmachar Golf Club Challenge after day one with an opening round of 64 (-8) in Aberdeen.
Caldwell (Clandeyboye Golf Club) is one ahead of John Parry after carding five birdies on the front nine and a further four on the back including three on the bounce to start his round in a perfect manner.
Parry (Harrogate Golf Club) had a clean card with seven birdies to make his 65 (-7) including four on the back nine* to put himself one shot adrift of the lead.
Several players are two shots back from the lead with opening rounds of 66 (-6) with Alan Sutherland (The Dukes St Andrews), Neil Fenwick (Dunbar Golf Club, and last year’s winner Billy Spooner (Boston West Golf Club) finding some early form.
Earlier in the day, 67 (-5) looked the score to beat with Bradley Moore (Kedleston Park Golf Club), Joe Brooks (Hanbury Manor Golf Club), Jack South (Hagley Golf Club/Taymar Homes), Thomas Neve (The Royal Automobile Club), Calum Fyfe (Golfing4Life) and Sam Locke (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) going well.
