Paul O’Hara’s American adventure produced a play-off victory in California as the Tartan Tour star showed his class on the other side of the Atlantic.
The Motherwell, a prolific winner on The PGA scene over the last few years, claimed his first success of 2024 in the Asher Tour’s Fallbrook Open.
O’Hara, who made a debut appearance on the main PGA Tour on America’s west coast last season, reeled off rounds of 67, 70 and 65 for an 11-under aggregate.
That was matched by American Colin Featherstone, who closed with a 64 to barge his way into a tie at the top.
It was O’Hara who earned the prize, though, as he emerged triumphant from the sudden-death shoot-out and earned a cheque for $20,000.
O’Hara, who was a runner-up on the Asher Tour last month, had been a shot off the pace heading into the final round.
But a bogey-free closing round, illuminated by a bag of six birdies, got his nose in front.
Featherstone’s late thrust included an eagle on the 13th but it was O’Hara who was flying high at the end.
It looks like it could be another purposeful, profitable season for one of The PGA in Scotland’s most formidable competitors.
