Gordon Campbell is looking forward to the challenge of helping the PGA in England (East) go from strength to strength.
The Scot steps up from his tournament controller role to replace John Smith as regional secretary.
It’s an opportunity that Campbell is especially excited about with golf and rugby his twin passions growing up in Scotland.
A former Airdire Golf Club champion who played off a one handicap, Campbell built a career in the City where he was director in charge of European government bonds – overseeing offices in London, Paris and Frankfurt.
At 40 he retired and ran a restaurant business for nine years before joining the east region – quickly moving up to a tournament controller role.
“My history is big corporate broking house in London, looking after clients and trading,” said Campbell.
“After retiring I ran a restaurant until deciding what I wanted to do next. I jumped at the chance to join The PGA as golf was still a big passion.
“I hope to build on what John has put together, we have a strong base and it’s been in a fairly healthy state since I joined.
“It’s been a busy few weeks with order of merit events so I haven’t really had chance to sit down a draw breath but I’m looking forward to the challenge.
“The PGA is a strong brand, not just in the UK but is a global brand too. We have some fantastic existing sponsors and we’re looking to both retain those and also build new ones.”
