The players are ready to go on the eve of the start of this year's PGA Cup. They could have quite happily got going this morning. It was nice to play another nine holes which I thought was plenty for today considering the week we’ve had. They’re all now ready to go on Friday morning.
It was 100 degrees out there again today which seriously takes it toll and it’s a hilly golf course as well. The players feel ready to go and every one of there guys is happy to play five matches of they need to.
I don’t think the Americans are underdogs particularly. We don’t very often play in 100 degrees so we know they’re going to be very strong. We know we’ve got an incredibly strong team but I think when you come over the water the Americans will always be favourites.
The team know the pairings for Friday and who is playing. They’re all now in a good place. Obviously it’s tough to tell the two guys who missed out in the morning but there’s always going to be two who miss out each session. That’s really the hardest part of the job. I’ve enjoyed everything so far but I didn’t particularly enjoy telling those two players they aren’t playing. I’ve head a chat with both of the guys that missed out and they’re absolutely fine with everything.
I only plan the Friday morning pairings. We’ve got some plans in place but we just wanted to get Friday morning out the of the way so that we know what’s going to hit us on Friday. We’ll revaluate when I have to get the second pairings in by about 12.30 on Friday. We’ve got a really nice idea of where we’re going with it and then we’ll revisit the plan after Friday.
We’ve been here four days now and we’re just excited to get going. There’s only so much you can do and we’ve covered everything. The lads are complimentary of what we’re doing and we’re very excited to see them out on the course this weekend.
I am really nervous about Friday but the that’s what it’s all about and that’s why I’m in this position as Captain of Great Britain & Ireland.
