Celtic Manor pair win at Radyr

Celtic Manor's Ryan Haskell and Richard Bentham, who was making his debut, won the Radyr Pro/Pro Christmas Betterball. They clinched victory by making successive birdies over the final three holes. This followed an eagle and three earlier birdies.

They finished one shot clear of man-of-the moment Craig Melding (Neath) playing with Hannah Bowen from Swansea Bay and Toby Hunt (St Mellons) and Kristin Cane (Cotswold Edge) who shot five-under 64. 

Winter order of merit leader Melding and Bowen looked probable winners as  Melding made three eagles at the first, fifth and eighth holes  but they dropped back after  both suffered triple bogeys at the 12th hole. 

Krane and Hunt contributed six birdies with a solitary bogey at the ninth. Three other teams tied fourth on a record-setting day which attracted 28 players. It was a fun day, Christmas jumpers were worn and lunch followed the play.
