New Chinese golfers got a taste of the sport at Shanghai’s Lanhai International Golf Club during the latest stage of the inaugural PGA Tour China Series.

While leading players contested the Lanhai Open, head PGA Professional, Damian McHugh and his team were busy showcasing the club’s recent investment in SNAG equipment (a fun easy way to learn golfing tool for beginners).

McHugh, who oversees golf operations at Lanhai’s PGA Golf Academy, hailed both the tournament and the SNAG a huge success especially with spectators trying golf for the first time.

“It was clear to see a real buzz was created around the clubhouse with the introduction of the SNAG zone,” he said.

“Not only have spectators of all ages been able to use the equipment, but it has also led to me generating new clients for follow-up coaching at the PGA Golf Academy.”

Encouraging newcomers to take up the game has long been a key role of the PGA Professional and McHugh was keen to add his thoughts on how the SNAG equipment has helped facilitate the process.

“We all know for someone just starting to play golf, the game can be both difficult and daunting but the SNAG equipment allows a newcomer to the game to experience success after just a few shots, and therefore immediately feel more comfortable in that environment.”

Away from the SNAG zone, the tour event, held over the Jack Nicklaus designed Links Course, was won by David McKenzie (Australia) with a score of 16-under-par total of 272.

The PGA is actively looking for golf facility owners and developers in China to work with to leverage the PGA’s brand and knowledge to their golf courses and academies, adding them to the existing PGA Golf Academies at Bayhood No.9 in Beijing and at Mission Hills in Dongguan and the other PGA facilities worldwide, including the PGA Centenary Course - this year’s Ryder Cup golf course
