L to R: Ed Beale CEO Open Solutions, James Short manager, Andrew Clapp (Brickendon Grange).

Andrew Clapp (Brickendon Grange) and James Short won the region’s inaugural PGA Professional & Secretary Challenge at Hartsbourne Country Club.

The pair from the Hertfordshire club shot a five-under-par tally of 66 to win by one stroke from the home team of George Fleet (Hartsbourne Country Club) and Jeremy Bohn.

Clapp and Short made five birdies between them and importantly kept bogey off their card.

The crunch hole was the 414-yard par-four 17th. Fleet and Bohn dropped a shot there but the eventual winners made a vital birdie on it that would eventually prove decisive.

A further stroke back saw Glen Portelli (Old Fold Manor) and Callum Austin tie with James Wood (Sudbury) and Guy Stacey.

In total 18 pairs competed and organisers felt the day was a great success.

Regional manager Gordon Campbell said: “We were very pleased with the first staging of the PGA Professional & Secretary Challenge.

“We feel the day has great potential, especially as an opportunity to network and share best practice ideas. I’m confident the day will grow in 2019 and beyond.”
