Clarke in Herts Open win

John Clarke, head PGA professional at Berkhamsted, enjoyed a narrow triumph in the 2014 Herts Open, staged at West Herts.

Clarke emerged victorious from a field of more than 60 players and was the only one to finish with an under-par total for the two rounds.

Amateur Alex Collman made the early running at his home course, firing a fine three-under-par 69 that included an eagle.

Clarke, who opened with a 74, had plenty to do to get into contention in the afternoon but returned an excellent 69 for a two-round tally of 143.

That proved good enough to secure a one-shot success from Harpenden Common amateur Lewis Watcham.

Glenn Portelli (Verulam) and amateur John Ambridge (Moor Park) shared third place on 145.
