Ladies European Tour (LET) regular, Rebecca Codd, dipped her toes into the PGA in Ireland schedule for the first time at the recent New Ross Pro-Am.

“It was probably one of the best experiences I have had playing as a professional to be honest,” said the 34-year-old who finished tied for 16th at the County Wexford club behind winner, David Higgins (Waterville).

“Everyone, from the club members to the other professionals made me feel very welcome.”

Rebecca, who is married to PGA professional, Shane Codd,  has been plying her trade on the LET for over a decade.

Shane is currently caddying for Colombian professional, Maria Jose Uribe, on the LPGA in Amercia while Rebecca juggles mothering duties to two-year-old Kate with her own playing ambitions.

“I'm hoping to play a few more PGA region events,” she added.

“Our LET schedule is not ideal for me this year. There are only 10 full field events so there are a lot of gaps.

“It's very difficult to stay sharp when you have long periods without competitive golf. When you get out of that rhythm it's hard to just turn it on again when you do get a chance to play.”

And she added; “I have one LET event in August and one in September so I have quite a lot of time available to play some events during that period.

“I have been looking at the PGA in Ireland schedule and hopefully I might get into the likes of Ballykisteen, Athy and Galway Bay.

“I would also love to qualify for the Irish PGA Championship which is at Dundalk this year. I won the Irish Strokeplay there as an amateur so I have lots of good memories of the venue.”
