Rob Coles (Maylands G & CC) secured a second Essex Open triumph – 18 years after his initial victory in the tournament.
Coles emerged successful from a three-way play-off, edging Luke Eggleston (LEAP Academy Golf Studio) and Mark Talbott (Thorpe Hall) at Stock Brook Country Club.
The trio all shot three-under-par 69s in a weather-hit 99th renewal of the Essex Open.
A torrential storm restricted the event to 18 holes. Heavy rain meant that some greens were flooded and by the time the course was clear it was too late to complete a second round.
As a result Coles, Eggleston and Talbott played-off at the par-5 tenth. They all initially made par at the hole before Eggleston dropped out at the second extra hole – the par-5 18th.
Coles and Talbott returned to the tenth where the former European Tour ace recorded a birdie to land the title.
