Constable set to hit the right beat at Forest Pines

Cardiff Golf Club hope their American connection will pay dividends at the Golfbreaks.com PGA Fourball Championship next month.

PGA Professional Adam Constable will team up with Cardiff assistant Rhys Davies for the £28,750 BMW-supported final, which will be held at Forest Pines Hotel and Golf Club in Lincolnshire on October 2-4.

Constable (pictured on right) is feeling confident ahead of the event, and explained that Davies (left) has been reaping the benefits of linking up with ex-Cardiff head professional Terry Hansen.

“Rhys has been making use of the Cardiff connection to go out and join Terry who is now based in the USA.

“Last winter, Rhys went out there and was playing the West Florida Golf Tour.

“He did that and came back to play here in the summer.

“It’s a link he might use again but I think finances will also come into it and whether that will allow him to do it, but it’s been good for him.”

Constable took over from Cardiff’s long-standing professional Hansen 10 months ago, and he is now delighted to be in the role after being involved with the club since childhood.

“I’ve been connected with the club since I was about 14 - so it’s not far off 20 years,” he added. “I’ve come right the way through the ranks from being a junior member to this.

“I went away to play on the Challenge Tour but then I came back to work under Terry and when he stepped down I took over.”

Constable believes Davies’s playing experience may be the key to impressing at Forest Pines.

“The format is a good one for me as I’m steady and Rhys is the one more likely to be sinking birdies,” said Constable. “We qualified well so hopefully we can take that into the final.

“I’ve played this event once before, at Forest Pines. “It’s a similar course to Cardiff, but where we have the oak trees, they have the pines – but it should suit us.”

Other teams from Wales taking part at Forest Pines are Brian Lee and Richard Dinsdale (Parc Golf Academy); and Gareth Lewis (Royal St David’s) and Gareth Jones (Sandiway).
